A blonde presenter, Maria Jose Lopez, whose breast fell out of her dress as she danced on an Italian football show has been sacked.

In a sign that even in a country notorious for its love of scantily-clad showgirls, decency has its limits, Maria Jose Lopez, was told her services would no longer be required on the popular soccer show, Offside.

The 20-year-old Chilean model's "wardrobe malfunction" happened when she took to the stage to perform a raunchy dance, with the straps on her figure-hugging black dress slipping down to reveal her left breast.

It was comparatively mild compared to the louche standards of Italian television, which serves a nightly diet of long-legged showgirls wearing bikinis and high heels.

Miss Lopez's dismissal was all the more surprising because the channel she appeared on is owned by prime minister Silvio Berlusconi's Mediaset television empire, which relies heavily on glamorous starlets and actresses.

As the estranged wife of footballer Luis Jimenez, who recently moved from Inter Milan to West Ham, Miss Lopez was establishing herself as one of the best known of Italy's WAGs.

"I can confirm that Maria will no longer be part of the team," said the director of the programme, Alberto Brandi.
The host of the show later said that the model had left of her own will, saying she was trying to patch up her marriage.
But Miss Lopez said that was "rubbish," adding that she was thinking of returning home to Chile.
"My removal from the programme is something that I'm still trying to understand," she told a glossy weekly magazine. "It's not like I killed someone. I have a chain of restaurants in Chile and I can support myself without having to work on Italian television."
